Tuberculosis
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is
as old as man's record history. Although several types of Mycobacteria
can cause natural tubercular disease in humans and animals, Nycobacterium
tuberculosis has evolved to be primarily a human pathogen
in nature. National surveillance of TB morbidity has consistently
demonstrated that the burden of TB in the United States falls
disproportionately on members of racial and ethnic minorities.
TB rates among Hispanics, non-Hispanics blacks, and those of Asian
or Pacific Island descent are significantly higher than non-Hispanic
whites. MORE

Predicting
Active Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Predictive
models to assess the likelihood of pulmonary tuberculosis are
available. The models are based on information related to clinical
and radiographic data. The models are of two types. Model
A is simple and quick algorithm that would allow health care
providers to determine whether isolation is needed for suspicion
of active pulmonary tuberculosis. Model
B is based on a complex statistical analysis and provides
information about the likelihood of having pulmonary tuberculosis.
